The History of RNAS Yeovilton Air base
Our first presentation of the evening will look at why a Royal Naval Air Station is positioned amid the landscape and orchards of South Somerset and take a look at many of the changes and developments that have occurred over the air station’s 83 year history.
David Morris, Research Fellow at Bournemouth University and Senior Consrvator at the Fleet Air Arm Museum at RNAS Yeovilton, will give a presentation with lots of fascinating images from the archive and a few facts that may even surprise some locals who thought they new their area around Somerton well!
David joined the Fleet Air Arm Museum in 1981 as a junior restoration engineer, and today heads the Conservation and Restoration team at the Museum. Throughout this fascinating career span he has been involved with many exciting and challenging projects associated with the collection both in the UK and abroad, and his time at Yeovilton has given him a fascinating insight into the operations, changes and history of the Yeovilton Air Station.
