Martyn was born in the Midlands and a job-related move brought him to Somerton in 1990.\nHe says ‘Somerton is such a great place to live and I’m always proud to show people around our ancient hill-top town with its interesting buildings and beautiful church.’\nThis gentle walk will take around one hour or so and will take in St Michael’s Church and some of the other old buildings in the historic centre of town.\nThe group size is limited to 20 so it is advisable to book early to avoid disappointment. DESCRIPTION:Bristol based Glaswegian duo The Lonely Tourist will be playing at the Etsome Arms as part of the Somerton Arts Festival. They have released two singles in 2023 – “Duty of Care” and “This Place Takes a Lot of Beating”  which have received airplay on BBC6 Music and BBC Radio Scotland. Both will be part of the 6th Lonely Tourist album\, due for release this year. \nHis fourth album Remuneration was  based around the concept of work and employment. Steve Lamacq chose one of the tracks “Frank the Barber” as one of his ‘Lamacq Liveners’ (played every day for a week on BBC 6music). Other singles “Luxury Coach” and “Last Day at Tony’s” have also featured on other 6music shows including Gideon Coe’s programme as well and being Radio Scotland singles of the week. In September 2018 Steve Lamacq picked Lonely Tourist’s “Ballad of Paul Tierney” as one of his all time favourites in 25 years of radio. \nThis is a FREE event but you will need to book your place direct with the Etsome Arms.

DESCRIPTION:There’s one remaining slot left for a band to play at Somerstock during the Friday night session. So we’re pitting three bands against each other in a Battle of the Bands to take place at the Parish Rooms on Friday 19th April. The winner\, chosen by the Somerstock judges and votes received on the night\, will open Somerstock 2024\, performing first up on the Friday evening (Friday 12th July) \nThe bands battling it out for the prime slot will be: \nVetna \nVetna are a car crash between different genres and eras\, in a comfy\, compact format for your own post-modern\, liquid entertainment. A music collective founded by Lorenzo Chia and based in Bristol since 2020. \nThis act proposes a bold experimentation\, beginning with alternative rock and post-rock\, with an unmistakable 90s and 00s imprint (Radiohead\, The Dandy Warhols\, The Smashing Pumpkins\, Verdena\, Godspeed You! Black Emperor\, La Femme\, just to name a few)\, and mixing it with a powerful electronic outfit (Four Tet\, Boards Of Canada\, Crystal Castles\, Nicolas Jaar). Everything spiced up with punk attitude and a hot psychedelic vibe. \nAbsolute Zero \nFormed in 2022 with a combined age of just 32\, Absolute Zero have been wowing audiences with their youthful energy and awesome ability beyond their years. In 2023 they recorded their first EP\, available here to download\, or buy on CD. Despite their size it is clear these guys are gonna be BIG – so check them out! ‘Cos nothing is as cool as Absolute Zero!’ \nJunebug \nJunebug is a 5 piece college formed band who play around the Glastonbury area in the spirit of home grown alternative rock. Inspired by bands like The Smashing Pumpkins\, Radiohead and other experimental groups. High energy rhythm section\, soaring fuzz tones as well as shimmering and chiming chordal breaks. \n  \n \nDoors open at 7pm and the first band will take the stage at 7.30.
